The One Language We All Understand

In today’s globalized world, we are constantly exposed to a vast array of languages and cultures. As of today, there are over 6500 spoken languages in the world. It’s no wonder that communication barriers often arise when trying to connect with people from different backgrounds. However, there is one language that we all understand, even though it has no letters or words at all – the language of symbols.

Studies have shown that about 80% of the information we receive comes from our eyes. We interpret colors, shapes, textures, facial expressions, body movements, and more. Symbols and icons have become a universal language that can transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries. For instance, regardless of where you are in the world, you can easily recognize symbols for services, locations, and rules, such as smoking or photography restrictions, crosswalks, and transportation stations.

The One Language We All Understand

Another modern example of this symbolic language is the use of emojis. The smiling, sad, surprised, or in-love emoji conveys the same message regardless of the recipient’s language or culture. The emoji is just one form of symbolic language that has become an essential part of our everyday communication.

But how did this symbolic language come to be? While there are many versions of how symbols became an international consensus, the reality is that we may never know precisely how certain symbols became so widely used. However, what is certain is that the use of pictures or symbols to convey a message or express an emotion has existed since our ancestors drew in caves.

The One Language We All Understand

Today, symbols and icons are vital tools for branding. They provide an immediate message that anyone can understand, regardless of their origin, native language, or other differences. Symbols are abstract forms that aim to convey a message that leads to action. If a potential customer can immediately understand the benefit of your product or service, the chances of them becoming a customer increase.

The One Language We All Understand

An effective visual message creates an understanding of the benefit that your product or service can offer. This immediate message creates an understanding of the benefit that leads to action. When customers know what they can expect from a brand, they are more likely to make a purchase.

In conclusion, a symbolic language is a powerful tool for communication that transcends borders and cultures. The use of symbols and icons has become essential in our everyday lives, from understanding street signs to recognizing a brand. When it comes to branding, creating a clear and accurate visual message that emphasizes the benefit of your product or service is vital. By using symbols, you can communicate a message that leads to action and turn potential customers into actual customers.
